It’s quite unfortunate that like all other competitions most of the medals
and trophies were taken by the Kenyans and Ugandans who prepared for this
event for almost a year. The Open University of Tanzania was able to
participate in volleyball, basketball and football, and for the first time
in many years Tanzanian did not take part in the games for the mere
participation but made it to the semi finals in basketball and quarter
finals in volleyball. All this was made possible by the Open University
teams. As for the football competition the OUT team was the last standing
Tanzanian team, though we didn’t make it to the quarter finals. The secret
behind this first step of success lies in total commitment, team work,
good communication among the participants and being well disciplined.

We couldn’t have made it this far if it wasn’t for team work during the
preparation and the competition. With this may I take this opportunity to
express my special thanks to all the players who despite the difficult
situation in which we prepared ourselves and the strenuous exercises they
had to endure together with sitting the exams they made it this far. I
also extend my gratitude’s to the management at large for their support
especially Prof. Mbwette and Prof. Bisanda who was able to visit us at the
play grounds and Mr Urassa for driving us to and from the play grounds and
to all other staff members who in one way or another supported us
throughout these competitions.

Regards

Ms Consolata Mwendabantu
Sports and Games Coach.
